OnePlus has always amazed its customers and this time is no exception. By all means OnePlus’s comeback with a somewhat bezel less 2017 version just after it released OnePlus 5, would definitely disrupt other smartphone sales – because it is cheaper than other flagships? This has always been its game, releasing models which are cheaper yet they give the same overall essence of a flagship phone.
The production and sales of OnePlus 5 was halted abruptly even before people got a hang of those devices. OnePlus did the same trick last year too. Just after OnePlus 3 came out, they ceased the production and launched 3T after six months. So, why does OnePlus release a T version of the previously released phone and then stop the previous phone’s production? Just one month before the release of OnePlus 5T in November, OnePlus 5 production was stopped and it was done to meet the demands of more people wanting to buy the upgraded version. OnePlus phones are manufactured by Oppo in India and it shouldn’t be a surprise to the readers that OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo are brands owned and separated by the same parent company BBK Electronics. But, should you buy a OnePlus 5T? Let’s find out more.
Is it worth $500 bucks?
If you want to buy a smartphone in 2017, ha, you need to stuff your pocket with freshly minted $1000 bucks, at least. With Google Pixel, iPhone X, Samsung S8, the smartphone market really experienced a paradigm shift in price brackets.
When every other flagship smart phone is really overpriced, OnePlus brought us a similar experience in an affordable price range. With no compromise in quality, OnePlus devices are always listed in the top flagship phones of the year.
OnePlus 5T packs a bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio 6-inch display that feels sturdy in your hand. The Optic AMOLED Capacitive Display sure has a lot of colors to show you. OnePlus 5T comes with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) out of the box, however the security patch hasn’t been updated till date, some reports claim. Qualcomm has been offering its best ever chip and this 5T has it just like its elder brother OnePlus 5. It proudly owns an octa-core processor with 4×2.45 GHz & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo chips distributing all the workload you give the phone in a way that there is no drastic rise in temperature, no lags, no glitches. No software issues have been reported so far unlike the Google pixel 2 XL which comes with faults out of the box. Just like its elder brother, this one also has two variants; 128 GB storage with 8 GB RAM or 64 GB with 6 GB RAM. You gt to decide the specifications you want. the only big change was the design. OnePlus 5T has rear mounted finger print scanner and how else can you make the phone bezel-less.
Some geeks would not want OnePlus 5T be called as Bezel-less and Why should it be? There’s iPhone X (forget that notch) and Mi Mix 2 that are literally bezel-less and then we have OnePlus 5T with two huge notches on the top and bottom.
Now, if you did happen to watch the OnePlus 5T Release that was broadcasted by the company, you might have noticed how they showed off their stunning dual camera (16MP+20MP) and also the face recognition feature. Face recognition the OnePlus 5T is easy to set up and is not as reliable as the PIN or Fingerprint unlock but still does the job. Face recognition on the iPhone X takes around 30,000 reference points to map your face and does involve some complex technique whereas the camera on OnePlus 5T does it an average way using almost 100 identifiers as the company says here.
What’s the big deal?
Well, OnePlus 5T is the Big deal. When the company first started, they wanted only true fans to buy the phone because they knew their product was very unique. It was necessary to have an invite in order to buy a OnePlus phone. That invite was only valid for 24 hours, so might be lucky enough to have an invite code but you’d be lucky only for the next 24 hours if you didn’t buy the phone. Invite codes were sold for a good price on eBay and then the company realized that this was not what they wanted. Son, OnePlus started global sales and they tied a bond with Amazon and OnePlus became an Amazon Exclusive phone. So if you do happen to buy one, consider yourself to be the lucky one (until OnePlus 6 hits the market).
Isn’t it too pricey?
No. No. No. It’s not. Remember, it’s a flagship phone with the best specs. available in the market. This phone is definitely worth spending money on. It’s an Android device with an amazing camera, a lag-proof processor, water resistant (to an extent) that sports a bezel-less display. You just can’t ask for more.
Go for it. OnePlus 5T will serve the purpose of being a high end smartphone with all the specifications you need at a fair price. However, you might want to have a look at other smartphones too, like the ones made by Xiaomi and Samsung. Truly bezel-less displays are found on Samsung phones if that’s what you’re looking for. And, if you have lots of money, buy yourself an iPhone X and trust me you will not regret.
